The Power of the Mind

Our brain, that structure that sits in our skull, made up of cholesterol based casings around our neurons.  The part of our body which we generally equate to the computer, the decision making and control centres of the body.   Within this system, there is the autonomic - automatic and the makes things happen with out thinking; sympathetic, which has more conscious control - feel pain > move hand; enteric system is the internal decision of the digestive system to ensure an efficient and tight function of digestion.

The other way we talk about our 'brain' is its division of conscious and unconscious mind. There are some really big differences between the two parts.  This article is going to broadly discuss

The conscious brain can be thought of your immediate awareness at any point in the day.  For instance, if you bring your attention to a sound, a touch or thought, parts of your brain are fired up.
You conscious mind also tends to do what you ask it to do, which is primarily directed by your unconscious mind.

The Unconscious Mind
It is thought, the unconscious mind hears, sees, and feels everything, so what ever you come into contact with, your unconscious mind is aware at a very deep level what is going on.  The conscious brain however, is only able to concentrate on a few points at any one time, but if given instruction or a specific request to pay attention to the smaller details we sense, the brain can access this information.

There are a 'points or rules'  of the unconscious mind, which when understand it is possible to harness the unconscious to our betterment and heal our world as we see it.
  1. The unconscious learns from repetition: The more it hears, sees, senses something the more important it becomes and more true it  'must be'.  Great for learning how to do things - study, work, routine procedures, but, not useful for gossip, lies, incorrect procedures and negative beliefs/thoughts
  2. The unconscious finds it difficult to process negative information: Words the have 'not' included such as don't, can't, shouldn't, wouldn't are not interpreted as a caution word as we intend them to be, but hears the positive component of the world - should, can, do, would, etc.  Pay attention to the words you use, think and say as this will give a huge amount of insight into what you believe to be.  If you want to make change in you life, phrase what you choose to create/focus on in the positive.
  3. The unconscious mind does not know right from wrong: This is how we create internal conflict our innocent thought, when charged with emotion will always trump our conscious logical thinking processes.  When coupled with repetition learning message such as I'm not lovable, worthy enough etc, the emotional feeling created through the separation, fear, hurt etc a child feels creates the intensity feeling that we label as being unlovable, unworthy etc.  Internal conflict can escalate when we consciously attempt to tell ourselves the opposite to what our unconscious believes.  Check in how you feel when you say positive affirmations you don't actually believe to be true for you.  this is a extremely helpful to find areas of healing.
  4. All behaviours, all learning and all change are unconscious: Your world is the collection of your decisions, values, beliefs, memories, language, and attitudes. These are your filters or lens through which you 'see' the world you are creating.  These are stored in your unconscious mind.  Want to change your world, change your internal thinking, links and associations you have hidden/buried in your psyche. If left unaddressed, the filters taint your intention, making it harder to make the changes. Clean/change the filter (as you do in the car's oil filter) and your life is easier and more in alignment with you dream thoughts.
  5. We create in our world - similar to above: We attract, process and accept how our world works based on our hidden, unconscious associations. Our values and beliefs are driving forces, which even if the logic of the brain can explain why things are not wise actions we will still act from that deep place.  For example, if the value "Family comes first", then you will live and act from this point of view.  If something happens to a family member, then strong emotions tend to come up in you.  The intensity of the reaction will depend on how tightly you hold the value, how flexible, or grey the value is, or extremes the point of view is reflects how intensity of the reaction/response.   Your beliefs, shoulds, must, this=that, interpretations, fears etc all contribute to the nuances through which we live and create our lives.
  6. The unconscious mind is the central place of the emotions: Emotions are chemical particles created when certain memories are triggered through sight, sound, touch, thought.  Emotions will trump decisions every time.
